A varnish protects all the work that you have done on your project, whether it is a wall, furniture, craft project or canvas painting. It keeps out all environmental elements. A varnish is commonly called a ¿topcoat¿. Several layers of varnish are always suggested for total protection. Many times a project is ¿considered done¿ just before this final coating. Not only does it protect what has been done, it intensifies it. The colors pop out and glow, giving a deep beautiful look that cannot be achieved any other way.
There are 3 common sheens in varnish, matte, satin and gloss.
Matte: very flat with little to no sheen. It still gives an intensity of color but no
real shine.
Satin: can be called semi-gloss. Give a little shine and is in the middle between
matte and gloss.
Gloss: the most shine. A high reflection with great intensity of color.
Generation Green Varnishes can be intermixed for any variety of sheens as long
as the varnish has the same product name.
Varnish is a general term and more specifically there are different varnishes that
do different things. Below are the non toxic water based varnishes that Generation
Green makes and an explanation of why they are different from each other. All of
the varnishes are of the highest quality resins on the market today. Generation Green keeps on top of the newest technological innovations. State of the art products are what makes us proudly stand behind our products.
Interior Varnish usually is perfect for the inside of the house. It does not have an Ultra Violet protection added to it so the varnished job is not sun protected. Usually on the inside of the house it does not matter. It is a strong, durable, flexible varnish that will protect for many years. Generation Green Interior Varnish is hard but flexible enough to use on fabrics and canvases as it will not crack.
Polyurethane Varnish has a urethane resin that gives a strong resilience as a protection. It is extremely tough and hard. It works great on countertops, and objects that get hard use. It is great in children¿s rooms and on children¿s furniture.
Directions for Use:
Make sure surface is clean and dry. Stir contents thoroughly. Pour into clean dish and using a soft brush, apply varnish over surface in light straight strokes. Dries clear in about 15 minutes, depending on humidity. Apply 3 or 4 coats, building up a hard durable topcoat. It is suggested to apply only 2 coats a day, letting them dry overnight. It is also suggested to apply top 2 coats of Satin or Matte, using Gloss first. This eliminates the building up of the flat matting agent so as to avoid cloudiness. Best used at temperatures of between 65-80 degrees.
